Yesterday morning on Sunday I started
off the day by off loading the previous night's dinner which was reluctant
to digest, and blocked up the sink in the process. Once that was over
things felt a lot better. I wasn't able to get much sleep during the
evening so I spent most of the day dozing recovering from the night
before.
I then started my second and final dose of the Cyclophosphomide which
went down smoothly. The weight gain due to the amount of fluids being
pumped in to the veins continued, with a gain by the evening of another
kilo. By bedtime I was feeling slightly nauseous, the tablets given
to counter the sickness seemed to work.
For the last two mornings the rash appears to have ceased, and this
morning I was up fairly early at 8:15 to get prepared for the first
of six radiotherapy sessions. For the total body radiation (TBI) you
lie on a table and the radiation hits you from the side, therefore
I have to do one 7 min session with the left side of my body exposed
followed by another 7 min session with the right hand side exposed.
The idea is to try and make the profile of your body into that of
a block so absorbent materials are placed around my legs and arms
(which are by my sides) in order to make the object (me) as block
shaped as possible so the rays as spread equally through the body.
The TBI itself is a painless process, and you're only aware that something
is happening because there are constant clicking and beeping noises.
It's the days and weeks after the TBI that I should notice things
happening, the most likely of which being the breakdown of the lining
of the gut and mouth. The mouth will especially be sore, so I'm following
the BBC (Brush Biocomplex Corsodyl), preparation after each meal.
Brush the teeth, rince mouth with Biocomplex mouthwash granules and
finally with Corsodyl antiseptic mouth wash. This regime is designed
to try and help alleviate as much as possible the discomfort caused
by the breakdown of the mouth lining.
At the moment things are still going fine, I'm feeling pretty good
inside and out and intend to stay this way as long as possible. Not
long to go now before BM-Day (bone marrow day) on Friday.
