Returned to the hospital for what turned
out to be another routine visit. The only concern I had was still
regarding my two forefingers and the herpes that the doctors had diagnosed
that was causing the internal haemorrhaging. My right finger seemed
pretty fine and hadn't deteriorated, but the patch on my left finer
appeared to have grown a little and spread to the side of the forefinger.
The dermatologist was great as he came up to visit me on the ward
at fairly short notice to have a look, expecting the finger to be
hanging off by some skin. He wasn't surprised by the way it appeared
and explained that it's appearance, whilst not 10/10 would take some
time to improve - several weeks. The important factor at the moment
is to stop the spread of the virus and the small blisters that also
characterise cold sores which the drug has appeared to have halted.
Apart from the finger problems the bloods were improving, with the
notable improvements being with the white cells counts as happened
last week. The haemoglobin will take several months to get close to
what my levels were before the transplant, so I'm not concerned that
they are still around the 10 mark at 9.9. The WBC was 2.9, neutrophils
2.4 and platelets 105. In fact the neutrophils have now recovered
from the losses and are now the highest they've been post BMT which
is encouraging. I also managed to put on 1kg in the last week so I
know Dad will certainly be feeling relieved. It's also helped me to
feel better to having that much more energy so I'll continue to try
and get the pies in. Next appointment is next week as per usual. Just
three more weeks to go till the 100 day barrier is broken....
