My last appointment on 16th June was mainly to have the bloods taken for another PCR test, in order to see at what rate my leukaemia count is falling, assuming that it is falling. The results take a few weeks to come through, hence the lack of excitement on the bday of the blood test.
After a few weeks wait, I was therefore pleased to find out that my PCR count had fallen from 50% to 1%. That's a reduction of 98%! The result is a a clear indication that the treatment is definately working. Things are now looking a lot better than 8 weeks ago, when the white cell count was considerably higher.
As a result of the response to the last DLI dose, my mouth is still
incredibly sensitive, and feels very inelastic. In other words yawing
now feels like my mouth is going to tear. Brushing my mouth with
regular toothpaste feels the same as chewing on red hot chilli seeds.
It burns my mouth like a hot curry. I can not handle any spice what
so ever in my food, even a sprinkling of pepper. Just the other
night, I couldn't finish a regular pepperoni and cheese pizza. My
eyes were watering in pain due mainly to a bit of pepper on the
pizza and perhaps the spicy pepperoni.
Also my eyesight have become a little blurred, in the same way your eyes are blurred from the chlorine in a swimming pool if you don't use goggles. My symptomes are those of a mild GVHD response. In order for the DLI to have had an effect on the leukaemia, it will also have an effect on my body too.
